Good Analysis, Then Apply your own Ideas

Mr. Trass presents the concept of the Property Cycle very clearly. This is not exactly a new concept as the cyclical nature of markets has been a major point of study in the price of stocks, bonds, interest rates, and just about everything else.

Note though that the cycles are not quite as even and regular as his diagrams show. You have to make decisions yourself using not only the techniques he describes, but factors that may be unique to your own location.

For instance:

I live in an area where gold mining is the largest industry. When the price of gold starts up, the mines start hiring more people and the availability of houses goes down and prices sky rocket. When the price of gold falls, well would you like a house where the previous owner dropped the keys off at the bank on his way out of town?

Housing is also a factor of other things. What will happen to the value of houses in the new sub-divisions that are 50 miles from down town? What was resonable last year may be quite different with gasoline over $3. Suppose gas goes to $10.

Read what Mr. Trass has to say, he has some very good points and expresses them well, but then modify it to suit your own ideas.

This book is one of my better investments.

I found it very easy to read, logical and very helpful. Although the property cycle is not new Kieran has been able to bring a fresh new way of looking at what is happening in the economic world. He then goes on to show how the information can be applied to a Property investors strategies.

I thoroughly recommend this book to both the old hands and new investors alike.

This book is a must read for new and old investors. It outlines the different stages of a property cycle, how to identify them and what strategies may be suitable at specific times.If you want to avoid getting burnt from your investements then this book is for you.

Jon Kieffer Jon Kieffer (MEF-CECP 2.0) is a principle technical writer working for Fujitsu Network Communications since 2001. In a previous academic career spanning 9 years, Jon taught software engineering at the University of Hull, U.K., and mechanical engineering at the Australian National University. Jon holds BS, MS, and PhD degrees in mechanical engineering and has authored 12 refereed journal articles and more than 30 conference papers in the fields of mechanical and controls engineering. In 2013, the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) recognized Jon as an outstanding contributor for his contributions to the MEF-CECP 2.0 Program.

Ralph Santitoro Ralph Santitoro is a founding member and serves on the board of directors of the MEF where he has held leadership roles in the MEF Technical, Marketing, and Certification Committees. Ralph created the MEF's Carrier Ethernet Professional Certification Program and co-developed the original MEF-CECP exam and the new MEF-CECP 2.0 exam. Ralph was editor of MEF 6, the industry's first Ethernet Services Definitions specification, and authored the MEF's Ethernet Services primer with over 100,000 copies downloaded. 2.0 Certified !!

As of this review (Feb 2014) there isn't a lot of study material out there that exists in a complete comprehensive format to adequately prepare for the 2.0 exam. My 1.0 certification prep was bootcamp based, it was a great experience, but I didn't have that luxury this time. Jon and Ralph's study guide is well written and covers the new material thoroughly. I highly recommend it !!

Due to time constraints and not knowing this book existed until a week before my test date, I was forced to buy the Kindle version. Having the Kindle version was key to my study efforts, I was able to highlight important sections, search for acronyms and key words. I used this highlighted material for my final review before the exam.

Good reference book

Great reference book - but if you only use this it will be hard to follow from cover to cover if you try and read it from start to finish to prepare for your exam. There are some MEF concepts it seems you already need to know prior to starting the first few chapters, but are explained later on. There is a companion introductory book to this that I would recommend for those that are very new to these concepts. I would also recommend the smartphone app that you can pick up for about ten bucks. I passed my CECP 2.0 exam using this book as a part of my studies. Nowadays I use it on a regular basis as a general reference and I think this is where it really shines. Great color diagrams and explanations. Even those that have already certified should buy this if they don't already own it.

The book was a great help for passing the exam

I purchased the book two weeks before the exam. The book was a great help for passing the exam. I had no prior experiences with the MEF specifications. The book provides an excellent overview of architecture framework, service definitions and service attributes, among other topics. I spent over 20 hours on this study guide, and passed the exam with a good score.

One caveat: the book is a study guide for the exam. It is not intended as a book to learn MEF specifications. For that, you need to go to the source - mef.net for detailed specifications.

Not just very bad editing and grammar, but the worst part is the incomplete recipes which make it impossible to follow.

Not just very bad editing, there are many incomplete recipes which makes it impossible to follow. I was so hoping to keep this cook book and enjoy all the recipes they share because it all looks so wonderful, but after reading the beginning of the book and looking at a lot of recipes, there was no way I could justify paying over $30 for a book that has all these mistakes in it. The last straw was when I started finding recipes that didn't say what temperature to heat the oven. If they can fix all these mistakes, then I'd buy it and give it a 5-star rating, I'm sure. But until then, I wanted to warn others to save their money and not buy this book.

This is an awesome cook book!. I have been on a Ketogenic diet since April. I am down over 90 pounds. Many people quit a Ketogenic diet or do not start one because they think they will not be able to eat good food. Or they think they will not have much veriety in food choices. The wonderful authors of this book have proven that this is not true!!! If you know anyone on a Ketogenic diet or someone that should be ( health reasons) I would recommend whole heartedly that you share this book with them. This book also has information on starting and staying on this way of eating. Don't let them suffer through this way of life without knowing that they can do it while eating wonderfully delicious food!!! Better yet buy them a copy they will love you forever!

This is a great book and put together very nicely! I love the variety of recipes. There is something here for everyone. Some of the ingredients are hard to find in the typical grocery store but I just ordered what I needed online. Everything I have made so far has been very good and will become staples in the families meal plan! Thank you very much for all the ideas and helpful tips. You have proven that Low Carb and Ketogenic diets do NOT have to be boring and run of the mill! Keto On!

Tao for US business & government

Herman writes this wonderful book with his insight, enlightenment and interpretation on the 81 verses of the ancient Chinese classic - Tao Te Ching, by Lao Tsu.

Adopting the philosophical spirit of Tao, he offers this book for the modern day of American business, also applicable to US Government and bureaucracy. He rightly points out (p.53) "When power is prized too much, it stiffens into chains of command and symbols of authority. This breeds bureaucracy and rigidity, and so perish creativity and adaptation. Bureaucracy and rigidity have caused the downfall of organizations from ancient empires to modern mega corporations (superpowers) "

Another worthy advice for the hawks in U S Capitol comes from page 113 " The military strategy of Tao says, avoid preemptive strikes. Taking no precipitous action, one demonstrates the action of peace. Speaking without threat, one disarms the opposition. Earnestly asserting, without enmity, one disallows an enemy's existence".

Intrigued by the title, I picked up this book and could not put it down until I finish reading the last sentence. This book provides the most valuable philosophical advice you will ever receive about the balance between the assertive energy and the passive energy that rule all aspects of our life. Since we spend most of our wake-up hours at work, the principles outlined in the book become exceptionally beneficial to anyone who is seeking for "spirituality" and "balance" at work. Learn and Apply, (yes Apply), those principles and you will notice the improvement of the quality of your life. The improvement will not be first in the sense of how much more money you will earn, rather how much happier and how much more capable you are becoming. When you reach that point, before you know, you are on the track for significant career advancement and higher earning power. When you bring this newly developed total self-leadership to your life outside of work, you will notice that no matter how many activities you engage yourself in, you will always have the peace, the center and the wisdom with you. This book should be made a required reading for all companies, from top executives to the very junior staff. It can also be a great gift to someone you really love and care about his/her own personal fulfillment.

About the Author
Kate Mangelsdorf is an associate professor of English and director of developmental English at the University of Texas at El Paso. She was formerly coordinator of ESL writing at the University of Arizona. Mangelsdorf has published articles in the Journal of Second Language Writing, English Language Teaching Journal, and Teaching English in the Two Year College, and she has contributed chapters to a number of books, including Two-Year College English: Essays for a New Century, A Sense of Audience in Written Communication, and Writing in Multicultural Settings.

Evelyn Posey is an associate professor of English and an associate vice president for academic affairs at the University of Texas at El Paso. She has served as an associate dean in the College of Liberal Arts, director of English education in the department of English, and director of the West Texas Writing Project (a site of the National Writing Project). She has also taught at El Paso Community College. Posey has published articles in Computers and Composition, the Journal of Business and Technical Communication, the Journal of Developmental Education, Teaching English in the Two-Year College, and the Writing Center Journal. She currently serves on the computer committee of the Conference on College Composition and Communication.

Great for Adult Learners

I chose this textbook for an online English Composition course because most of my students are "returning adults" who range from Generation X or Y to Baby Boomers. The text was easy to follow and applicable to the real world. The writing assignments were very useful for our online course design. I used the last section of the book as a reference tool for reminders about sentence structure, grammar, punctuation, and research. My freshman students were very diverse and came from all different backgrounds, including a ex-prisoner with a GED, a Native American woman going to college while raising a family, a young man who worked in fast food restaurants for 10 years and wanted to improve his life, and a couple of unemployed baby boomers finally taking a leep of faith into a college degree. The writing skills of the students were fair to poor, but this book helped me pull it all together and help the students prepare for college-level writing. The essays in the text were somewhat controversial regarding environment, world events, immigration, and drinking age, to name a few. Though I saw a slight liberal bias, I appreciate that the authors presented both points of view. It promoted critical thinking and interesting discussion in online postings. All students were able to have freedom of speech on these topics and they were challenged to reinforce their point of view in their own essays with research and references. It's one of those books that causes the professor to learn right along with the students. I did not give it a perfect score because several of the essays that students would be required to read if you assign the whole chapter were too long, too boring, and too political. I think several short-essay examples - ones like my students have to write (400 - 500 words) would be more effective. I got the feeling that the lengthy essays were the author's attempt to make a strong political point of view, but instead, they lost their audience all together. Dr. Wendy Flint, Professor

I used this book for two semesters, teaching Comp 1 and Comp 2. I had my choice of several books, all okayed by my program, and I chose this one. It worked very well. One thing I like about it is that it has readings, as do all comp textbooks, but this one has a number by persons outside the USA (part of the word "World" in the title). The book has four sections (you can get a good idea of content at the Longman's text website). They are Expanding Literacies, Expanding Influence, Expanding Writing Strategies, Expanding Research and a good reference handbook at the end.

Part 3 may or may not be of general use, but it includes visual design of documents, writing in the workplace and one I think students may find useful, writing essay exams. The core chapters I used were (5) Exploring an Event (narrative); (6) Making an observation (description); (7) Explaining a Concept (Definition); (8) Investigating a Cause (cause and effect, not a cause as in a political cause); (9) Evaluating an Experience; (10) Arguing a Position (Argument and persuasion); (11) Solving a Problem; and (12) Advocating for Change. 10, 11 and 12 are sort of variations on a theme. I had the classes write three papers: observation/definition, cause and effect, and advocating for change.

Obviously I'm not going to include my very long syllabus here, but this is a good book, if you have to use one. I would have preferred not using a textbook and having people do an online newspaper subscription, but I had a range of choices, I chose this, and it worked well. A lot of the readings are very recent and students found most of them interesting. It does have some rhet/ comp content but not nearly as bad as in most textbooks.
