Excellent Resource

I purchased this set after reading several reviews and I am very pleased that I did. Although the two texts can be used separately, I recommend that you buy them as a set and also purchase the fabric Swatch Set and mount them into the Glossary, which has been designed for that in mind. The Reference refers to the Glossary, and so far, the fabrics referred to in the Reference have been listed in the Glossary.
The Swatch Set includes 115 smallish swatches and is sold separately at [...]. In my opinion, this swatch set is invaluable - the scavenger hunt and wasted time and gas involved in trying to round up fabric samples makes this swatch set pay for itself. I've also noticed that some reviewers have categorized the Reference as a beginner's text, but it's my opinion that this reference book is much more than that.
This set has been put together in a very thoughtful way and by fabric families, which is novel, and I own several textbooks on the subject! Ms. Humphrie's books are easy to read and thoroughly treat fabric identification, care (very thorough), cleaning and maintenance (mixture, measurements, etc.), commercial info., and wonderful illustrations of fabric trees and usage guides along with historic facts and many great photos. These reference books are packed with great information. It is my opinion that if you want true INFORMATION instead of glossy photos (see a true beginner's text: Fabric for the Designed Interior - Koe). Buy these books and the swatch set (at the site noted above), then add them to your at-hand library.
