incomprehensible

The book covers different Data Converter architectures. The coverage by itself is not sufficient to undertake a data converter design rather it should be treated as a starting point. However, this is not why I am giving this book a "one star". The book is almost incomprehensible. Sentence structures are awkward and confusing. Sometimes, I wonder even a good editor could salvage this book. Bottom line, the author is well known circuit designer and you may extract some useful information if you are willing to read each paragraph at least twice.

lots of in-depth formula but not reader friendly

The book covers lots of interesting topics in A/D and D/A converters. Lots of insights and detailed analysis are provides. Yet, I'd say it is very hard to understand the author. Terms and jargon are ill defined. I constantly get lost not because of the content but the way he is phrasing the story. I've barely finished the first chapter. Not recommended as an entry-level textbook, especially English is not your first language.

and they actually enjoyed the writing exercises

Two of our children have been led through levels one and two of Writing the Classical Way. The children had not been in a formal composition class before, but they worked through these books in grades 7 and 8. It didn't take long for them to grasp the concepts that they were being asked to learn, and they actually enjoyed the writing exercises! They learned to write with a purpose, were equipped to express and defend their thoughts, and they were challenged to think in ways that fostered and allowed them to be creative. As the books progress, the exercises ask more of the student, and little by little, their writer's "tool bag" is added to, so to speak. I honestly can't imagine learning to write using any other method. Its complete and systematic nature of teaching writing made what can seem a bore and a chore something to which they looked forward. From what I understand, the writers of this book have written Book 3, and it will be available on Amazon in late fall. Also, I understand that revised editions of levels one and two are coming out in early August.

Probably not for the beginner, but a great collection nonetheless!

I've been trying to make myself get back on the clarinet bandwagon after a nearly 20-year hiatus, and I thought buying music from my favorite musical might help spur me on a bit. This collection offers a great variety of music from Les Miserables, but as someone who is just getting back into the swing of things, it's a little above my abilities at this point. However, I distantly remember being relatively good on the clarinet decades ago and at that time in my life, this would have been a piece of cake to play. So hopefully someday, if I can keep myself motivated, that will be true for me again. Overall, a great investment for someone who is a Les Mis fan and who likes to make music of their own.

Best book ever!

Les Miserables is the best movie I have ever seen and when I saw that there was a clarinet book for it, I had to buy it. I was not sad when I got it. I got home and started playing the songs in it! This book has made me very happy and everyone should buy it if they love the movie and play the clarinet.

Fun to play, easy pieces

I have been playing the clarinet for about 5 years, so I am fairly proficient. The pieces in this book are not very hard, but they are not simple enough that they sound childish. All of the songs are the full duration. It is fun to play while someone else is doing the vocals.

Excellent overview of Armenian history and culture

The first printing of a book in Armenian was in Venice, Italy in 1512. Its 500th anniversary was celebrated in the US with a wonderful exhibition at the Library of Congress ; in Italy there was a major exhibition in Venice itself , extending over three of the museums facing St. Mark's Square . A collaboration between the Armenian and Italian states, it was titled "Armenia: Imprints of a Civilization" ("imprints" being a mild pun on the process of printing books ). This large, heavily illustrated book is the catalog of that exhibition.

I was lucky enough to see both exhibitions , and bought a copy of this catalog on the spot in Venice .I couldn't lug more than one copy around Italy , so I spent a lot of time looking for extra copies to be maied to friends, but it was unobtainable until Amazon US made it available this Fall. It is a bargain , cheaper than the paperback cost in Italy ! With hundreds of color photographs and in a good English translation ( NOT a sure thing with English versions of Italian exhibition catalogs ) , the book consists of short essays by about thirty scholars and talented amateurs , giving overviews of Armenian history, culture, art, literature , music, and even film. Not everything can be treated in much depth, and there is naturally a special emphasis on books and book production, on the role of Venice and Italy in relation to Armenians , and on the Mekhitarist monastic order. I want to single out two unusual photographs - the space view on pp. 13-14, and that of Paradjanov on p. 350.

Of course, some of the scholars have their own idiosyncrasies ; there is no list providing identification or details about the authors beyond their names ; there is no index ( admittedly difficult for such a book ) ; and the bibliography is divided by chapters, not always a desirable feature. Still, anyone without an encyclopedic knowledge of Armenian history and culture will learn much from this volume - a nice addition even to specialized libraries. I do not think it has had or will receive much exposure in the US, and am grateful to Amazon US for making it available here.

About the Author
Michael Burgan has written numerous books for children and young adults during his nearly 20 years as a freelance writer. Many of his books have focused on U.S. history, geography, and the lives of world leaders. He has also written fiction and adapted classic novels. Michael has won several awards for his writing, and his graphic novel version of the classic tale Frankenstein (Stone Arch Books) was a Junior Library Guild selection.� Michael has also worked as an editor at Weekly Reader, the classroom news magazine used in schools across the United States. Michael graduated from the University of Connecticut with a bachelor’s degree in history. When not writing for kids, he enjoys writing plays, and his works have been staged across the United States. He lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico, with his cat, Callie.

Richard Dominguez was born Eufrancio Ricardo Dominguez to Ricardo and Juanita Dominguez in Dallas, Texas on September 22, 1960. The second of seven children, Richard grew up in a section of West Dallas known during the Great Depression as 'The Devil's Back Porch'. Dominguez recalls his first exposure to comic books at the age of six, when he began sneaking in to his Uncle's room to read from his large comic book collections. In high school Richard enrolled in Commercial Art and later took Life Drawing classes at a community college before taking a job at a local supermarket chain to create and paint point-of-purchase displays. During the late '80s and early '90s, Richard worked as an intern for several art and design studios, later designing logos for Semi-Pro Sports teams and small companies.

Not practical - very disappointing

I've read through this book and I can's say I'm any closer to understanding how to design a transformer than when I started. There are very view practical examples. The text is vague on nearly every subject it discusses. There is no discussion on how how to select a core size, or transformers for switching power supplies. There is a lot of discussion about things no-one cares about such as procurement practice, and quality assurance.

I bought this book hoping to get learn how to design a step up transformer ( a lower voltage to a higher one). The information in this book can be divided into two categories:
1) things you already know 2) things that you are not interested in
No attempt is made to present material in an intuitive format. Another weakness of the book is that several fromulas are presented with variables that are neither defined or explained. If you are interested in building you're own transformers don't waste your money on this book. The only value it has is as a reference for few formulas. There is little practical, useful information if you are looking to construct a specialty transformer for a design project.

The book seems somewhat out-dated and lacks a complete mathematical approach, however, is has been a very useful text as a companion to other texts that I have on this and related subjects. When I first perused the book I was dissapointed in the seemingly lack of mathematical analysis, but on closer examination and actual use of the book, I have found it to be quite useful and would recommend it to those who not particularly interested in a highly rigorous text.
