I go to one of the programs already, and bought it because i was interviewed in it but I wish I would have had this guide when I was looking for a master degree in industrial design. It gives a very complete idea of how schools are different so you can make the right decision for yourself.

What a great conclusion.

The conclusion of this series was amazing. I will definitely miss the heroines of this series. Sometimes when an author writes a trilogy one is not as good as the other. I love all of these books. Each one can be read on its own. If you start with this one you might as well buy the other two just so you can hear the other stories. Plus you definitely need to meet my personal favorite heroin Millie Longfellow in the book "In Good Company".

Introduction:

What happens when an ardent "lover" meets the gambling happy step-father of an actress who is less than interested in him admirer? Drama, disaster, daring escapes, and a...haunted castle? Lucette was the perfect heroine for this book. Although she wasn't my favorite character, her sensitivity and moral uprightness were inspiring. This was my first book by Jen Turano. The only complaint I had about it was that this was the third book in the series and I didn't realize it until about halfway to three-fourths of the way through when some details were missing that I didn't know. A series name on the cover somewhere would have helped me a lot. Or a few extra details.

Characters: 1/1

Lucette was wonderful, as was her patroness. But Bram was my favorite. Not just because of his eccentricities, but because of other things I can't say for fear of spoilers. I loved how real his character was and how clueless he could be at times.

Dialogue: 1/1

The dialogue was perfect. I loved how every character had different ways of saying things throughout the book.

Plot/storyline: .75/1

As I mentioned earlier, there were a few plot details that appeared to be missing, but then I found out this was book 3 in a series. That being said, there were a few other plot points that made the story a little unbelievable at times. Overall, however, the plot and storyline were well executed and captivating.

Overall writing quality: 1/1

Jen Turano has a way with words and I will certainly be looking up more of her books again.

Un-put-down-ability: .75/1

There were a few times when there was too much going on in the book and I had to put it down for a short time. However, I did have a hard time doing it even then.

Conclusion: 4.5/5

I always love a good mystery and this one had me very interested. I did have a few guesses as to some of the twists and was correct each time, but even with that, it was a good book and one that I'm sure I will read again at some point.

I've been using Doreen Moore's Good Christians, Good Husbands? as a required text for my modern church history course at Dallas Theological Seminary for several years now. By comparing the marriages and ministries of First Great Awakening giants John Wesley, George Whitfield, and Jonathan Edwards, Doreen Moore sheds light on vital issues of contemporary ministry often ignored by laborers in the gospel ministry.
Its research is thorough; its historiography is careful; it's thesis is compelling; and, when taken to heart, its practical implications can be life-changing. In fact, Good Christians, Good Husbands? is the only reading for which I've actually had students' wives thank me for assigning it to their husbands.

Driven by a confluence of four motivations, Doreen Moore has produced a study of marriage that is helpful and charming. She is a good historian. I remember this from excellent work that she did in the history program at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. Good Christians

This is a well-referenced book that will serve as a good source for others doing similar research. I like the unique perspective on these icons of the faith. The danger of neglecting family is just as real today for all who seek to be used by God in this present age. Even though this is a somewhat scholarly book, it still reads quickly. She does a nice job of summarizing in the final chapter. I'm buying several copies to give out to friends in the ministry for Christmas. Hopefully it will spare them of future family problems by reminding them of their highest calling as a husband and father.

Must Read

This is a must read for every Christian husband. Too many of us have bad viewpoints of our family life vs church life. Doreen Moore does an great job telling about these three men and their truely important impact.

Rarely will I tag a book with "must-read," but this is a MUST READ.

Author, scholar, mom, and wife Doreen Moore has done an incredible job portraying the most important part of any man's Christian life, his marriage and his ministry. But she did so while comparing not just the marriage and ministry, but also the lives of three of history's most visible Christian preachers: George Whitefield, Jonathon Edwards, and John Wesley.

This book will be one that will gradually catch on and talked about for years and years.

More powerful and inspiring than the superheroes it moves on the big screen, the RenderMan 3-D graphics engine pushes animation toward the photorealistic as anyone who has seen A Bug's Life, The Iron Giant, or the Toy Story can attest.Advanced RenderMan, written by two long-time employees of Pixar Animation and early participants who helped define the RenderMan standard, is a clear, concise, and technical exploration of this computer graphics and animation rendering tool.

The first section introduces RenderMan, computer graphics concepts, and mathematics, followed by a section on "Scene Description." This includes chapters on "Describing Models and Scenes in RenderMan" and "Handling Complexity in Photorealistic Scenes."

Sections 3 and 4, "Shading," and "Tricks of the Trade" supply the meat of the book and make it worth the cost of admission. These sections include examples and insight from not only a technical perspective but also a cinematic one. The chapter "Storytelling Through Lighting" should be required reading for beginning computer animation artists.

There are numerous color plates, including some rendering tests from Toy Story. These show the same scene (Andy's room) using different lighting and color palettes, each suggesting a different time of day.

Given the difficulty of the book's subject, 3-D artists or animators with limited technical chops, amateurs, or hobbyists might be better served by something more general. This is, however, an outstanding reference for CG technical directors or anyone with experience in graphics and 3-D programming. It is filled with coding examples used to create RenderMan shaders and case studies citing which techniques were used to create a specific look in, for example, Toy Story or A Bug's Life.

The book has no accompanying CD-ROM, but the publisher maintains a Web site from which code snippets and examples can be downloaded. At first, this may seem inconvenient and merely a way to cut production costs, but it's actually an excellent way to keep the examples current. About the Author
Tony Apodaca is Director of Graphics R&D at Pixar Animation Studios, co-creator of the RenderMan Specification, and lead engineer of the PhotoRealistic RenderMan. His film credits include Tin Toy, Knick-knack, Toy Story, and A Bug’s Life. In 1993, Tony and five other engineers received a Scientific and Technical Academy Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for work on PhotoRealistic RenderMan.

Larry Gritz is a co-founder of Exluna, www.exluna.com, part of Nvidia, where he is a co-designer and the current technical lead of the Entropy renderer. Prior to joining Exluna, Larry was the head of the rendering research group at Pixar Animation Studios and editor of the RenderMan Interface 3.2 Specification, as well as serving as a lighting and shading TD on film and commercial projects. His film credits include Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Toy Story 2, and Monsters, Inc. Larry has a B.S. degree from Cornell University and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the George Washington University. Prior to joining Pixar in early 1995, Larry was the original creator of BMRT. Larry's research interests include global illumination, shading languages and systems, and rendering of hideously complex scenes.

Timeless Rendering and Geometry Reference, Especially for Students.

Still an excellent reference on shader writing and Renderman. Now that other rendering softwares have become more popular in large studios (Arnold/V-Ray) you'd think this book might be outdated. But not so. The first few chapters on the concepts and math behind geometry, and the math about how shaders (any shader) works is still worth having this as a rendering reference.
