About the Author

Alain Briot is one of today's leading contemporary landscape photographers. Originally from Paris, France, he attended the Academie Nationale des Beaux Arts where he studied drawing and oil painting from 1977 to 1980. Briot then began his study of photography at the American Center in Paris. After visiting the American Southwest, Briot became enthralled with the artistic potential this landscape afforded and in 1986 he relocated to the U.S. He began his study of photography at Northern Arizona University, earning his Bachelor's Degree in 1990 and his Master's Degree in Visual Communication in 1992.From 1995 to 2002, Briot lived at Canyon de Chelly, Arizona, in the heart of the Navajo Nation. Living there allowed him to become intimately familiar with Native American arts and culture, which is evident in the frames and matting designs he uses. Briot's goal is to create the most exciting and beautiful photographs possible. His equipment—be it cameras, software, etc.—is chosen for the ability to make this possible.Alain Briot is a columnist on the highly respected Luminous Landscape website, and is a popular teacher of photography workshops. Okay if if you shoot images similar to the author

This is not a bad book if you're into shooting photographs similar to the author and you want to join the circuit of galleries you see in places such as Sedona, AZ... The author actually gives a lot of good advice.

The book is pretty well made for that audience.

The catch though, is that it's not really about the real market of contemporary art photography. You will not find here references to Paris Photo, nor references to photographers who are in contempory art museums.

But, once you know this is strictly about the type of photography similar to the author's, and if it's your thing, this might be a good fit.

Excellent - Clear, Concise, Informative for Fine Art Photography

After waiting several months for the release of this book, I was pleasantly surprised how readable, clear, concise and justified the approach was. The author clearly differentiates between fine art photography and other forms (ie, stock photography for example). If you are searching for ways to monetize your hobby...this is probably NOT the book for you. On the other hand, if you are searching for tried and true methods of turning a "hobby" into a full-time artistic pursuit while creating a stream of income from your fine art...this IS the book for you.

The author takes the time to provide a strong foundation for fine art photography as compared to other forms - something the reader would be well advised to examine in brutal honesty. Does your photography really qualify as fine art? If not, can it or should you keep moving to find your own niche? From that foundation the author goes on to explore all of the nuts and bolts of selling, marketing, showing and networking including mention of recent technology ranging from payments to social media marketing. There is a superb balance between tried and tested methods and new approaches with an emphasis on realistic steps designed to help you begin at the basics and grow from there.

Exceptionally clear, very readable. Highly targeted and delivers exactly what is promised.

The most complete book I have ever seen on the subject of building a small photography business based on Fine Art sales. Straight forward with no bs. What a great team Alain and Natalie have made. This book, along with their heart for the genuine art of fine photography, gives new businesses, and artists, hope for future success. Bravo. Beautiful.

It also covers the combustion process, environmental issues, controls, mathematical modeling, testing, troubleshooting and installation and maintenance.

This book addresses key questions on biofuels within agrarian political economy, political sociology and political ecology. Contributions are based on fresh empirical materials from different parts of the world. The book starts with four key questions in agrarian political economy: Who owns what? Who does what? Who gets what? And what do they do with the surplus wealth? It also addresses the emergent social and political relations in the biofuel complex and, given the impacts on natural resources and sustainability, engages with questions about people-environment interactions. At the same time, the book is concerned with the politics of representation, that is, what are the discursive frames through which biofuels are promoted and/or opposed?

The book analyses the institutional structures, and cultures of energy consumption on which a biofuels complex depends, and the alternative political and ecological visions emerging that call the biofuels complex into question. Across sixteen chapters presenting material from five regions across the North-South divide and focusing on fourteen countries including Brazil, Indonesia, India, USA and Germany, these topics are addressed within the following themes: global (re)configurations; agro-ecological visions; conflicts, resistances and diverse outcomes; state, capital and society relations; mobilising opposition, creating alternatives; and change and continuity.

About the Author

Saturnino M. Borras Jr. is Canada Research Chair in International Development Studies at Saint Mary’s University, Canada, an Adjunct Professor at China Agricultural University, Beijing, and a Fellow of the Amsterdam-based Transnational Institute (TNI) and California-based Food First. He is joining the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) in The Hague, Netherlands in January 2011.

Philip McMichael is a Professor of Development Sociology at Cornell University. His research focuses on food regimes, agrarian movements, and climate change. Key publications include: New Directions in the Sociology of Global Development (co-edited, 2005), Development and Social Change: A Global Perspective (2008), and Contesting Development: Critical Struggles for Social Change (2010).

Ian Scoones is a Professorial Fellow at the Institute of Development Studies, University of Sussex, UK. He has a background in agricultural ecology and his interdisciplinary research links the natural and social sciences and focuses on the relationships between science and technology, local knowledge and livelihoods and the politics of policy processes. He is currently co-director of the ESRC STEPS Centre at Sussex and Joint Convenor of the Future Agricultures Consortium.

About the Author
Called “a consummate poet” by Robert Creeley, Bernadette Mayer was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1945. A most prolific poet, her first book was published at the age of twenty-three. Many texts later she continues to write progressive poetry from her home in East Nassau, New York. For many years Mayer lived and worked on the Lower East Side of Manhattan where she was the Director of St. Mark’s Poetry Project from 1980-1984. Having been at a recent poetry open mic, where Ms. Mayer was the guest speaker, and she graced the audience with a reading from this newer work, I had to snatch up a copy. Writing this book is the culmination of 20,000 hours of coaching clients on choosing to have a life--By Design. It is full of valuable and unforgettable lessons that I wanted to share with the world. Turn Off Your Auto-Pilot and Focus!

This book points out that opportunities for success will become apparent if you are looking for them. For example, most people realize how much more aware they became of babies, puppies or a certain type of car, once they decided they wanted one and it became foremost in their thoughts. The first time I went to a Dodger game pregnant, I was amazed at how many people brought their babies there. We seemed to be surrounded by adorable tots. I also noticed how many were crying, even in another section. Before that, I’d never noticed, but when it was my main focus, I became acutely aware of them. Tom Ferry wants us to become more aware of business opportunities by living with focus and not just ‘by default’ going through our day on auto-pilot. The book reads the way he speaks, enthusiastically, but with a believable message and plan rather than rah-rah-you-can-do-it hype. I would highly recommend this to people of all ages.

"Life! By Design: Create Passion And Purpose In Your Life" by Tom Ferry with Laura Morton is one of the newer books on living with passion, purpose, and as Ferry puts it, by design and not default. In it, Ferry teaches his six steps to an extraordinary you. If you have read other books on living life to its fullest and achieving your dreams and goals, you might find much of this book similar. After all, basics are basics, each person just has a different way of teaching them. It's sort of like the martial arts. There are numerous styles, all teaching variations of hitting, kicking, blocking, and so forth. But different people will connect with different styles and instructors better than with others. I'm sure many people will connect with Ferry's six steps and other advice in this book. And for those that have heard a similar message before, it does not hurt to hear again. I'm sure those that follow Ferry's system will achieve more and live more by design than by default. That is, if they apply his system and follow through.

Ferry's book is a motivating read that is divided into two parts. There's an introduction and an introductory chapter, then you get into the main two parts of the text. Five chapters make up part one, Living By Default. The final four chapters make up part two, Living By Design. After an introduction that explains a little of who Ferry is and where he came from, he continues in Chapter One discussing how he created his own future and asks if the reader is ready to do the same.

Phase 1: Living By Default contains chapters on by default versus by design, waking up, the problem with no problems, addictions, and turning to face the changes. These chapters get you thinking about where you are today and what kind of life you are living. If you take the time to really think about your own situations and ask yourself the difficult questions Ferry asks you to ask yourself, you will be rewarded by the discovery. He ends phase 1 by asking if you will choose to live by design or default.

Phase 2: Living By Design contains chapters on the six steps to living by design, the conscious and subconscious mind and the power of self-talk, the benefits of a healthy body and healthy mind, and the five evolutions to master by design living.

The six steps are found in chapter seven and consist of:

1. Wake up from you coma - become aware of the areas in you life that need attention.
2. Make the choice to change your life.
3. Create your life By Design.
4. Do the things that bring you power!
5. Practice visualizing yourself already there, in possession of what you want.
6. Create structure and accountability by telling others around you about your plans.

The six steps are explained well and Ferry provides examples and exercises to help you along the way. Again, I think the system has merit for those that actually implement his ideas.

The next chapter is on positive affirmations. Why? Because they work says Ferry. Chapter nine contains a few basic principles of health. Nothing in depth here, but I agree with Ferry 100% that taking care of your physical well-being is critical to achieve success in other areas too. Where there is much more to living healthy that Ferry provides, his basics are sound and would help anyone not already following a healthy lifestyle. The final short chapter is on mastery with a motivating message to go be extraordinary.

I enjoyed the book. Even though many of the concepts were very familiar to me, and things I do already, I thought Ferry did a good job of motivating and providing exercises for readers to take command of their own lives and as he says, many times, life by design, not default. If you are looking for a book to pep you up and help you live with more passion, check this one out.

Not a Great Book

This book is heavy with self-promotion and devoted to convincing the reader that only a patent attorney can perform the magic. This is reinforced by touching on issues in an incomplete way and saying "this is too hard for you, so ask your patent attorney." Also the organization is not great - it jumps around a bit and contradicts itself in at least one place (whether a provisional patent should have a claim). "Patent it Yourself" and other books are better.

A Fine Primer for Developing Patent Applications

This is a good, well-rounded guide regarding the composition of patents & the general protocols. (I work as a liaison between engineers/scientists & patent lawyers, & I do find a lot of useful information in this book.) It does assume--wisely--that the reader will be using a patent attorney as a resource. But this explains the way claims are formed (independent & dependent), the verbiage used for the application's description content, & other how-to information (such as how to develop figure illustrations compliant with patenting protocols. So I'd recommend this as a fine book that can be referenced by inventors, paralegals, & those involved in the development of patent applications.

No one ever said love was easy. And if they did, they lied.
We’ve all been there. You know, that high school sweetheart or crush. The one who stole your heart, who captured your attention all the time, that kiss that meant the world to you, a touch that would make you melt and two arms that made you feel safe. Feelings like that, you never really get over. Like most high school romances, it all ends in the blink on an eye.
Cammie has loved Dalton since she was fourteen years old. He was the light in her life when she was in her darkest moments. The kisses he would sneak from her calmed her, his touches warmed her heart. Then one day everything changed.
Life moves on and for Cammie, she was never really able to find “the one”. But hey, you live and you learn. As hard as you try to forget and try to move on, that dang heart doesn’t want to listen. Then you find yourself wondering what if as you prepare to attend your ten year high school reunion.
Dalton had become so ingrained, so easily a part of me, that not even surgery could remove him.
Dalton can’t figure out for the life of him where he went wrong with Cammie. One day they are head over heels for each other and then the next day, she refuses to acknowledge his existence. In the blink of an eye they have graduated and are off to college. It is hard to move forward with your life when someone still has your heart.

Happily-ever-after seemed to be something that eluded me, and I wondered if it always would

Dalton is over the moon to be reunited with Cammie again. She is all he ever wanted. Things seem to be going great but when an issue at work turns into a disaster. Dalton can see the determination is Cammie’s eyes and he fears that he may have lost her for good this time.
I couldn’t let her go. Not again. Not after reconnecting the way we had. There was a special bond between Cammie and me, something that never quite died with time. It didn’t fade away, lessen, or cease to exist, instead it simmered, waiting for us to come within feet of each other so it could reignite and set us both aflame. I was on fire and I refused to burn alone.

I adored Cammie’s character. She is beautiful, smart and witty. Her best friend Kristy is awesome and tells it like it is. Cammie continuously denied her feelings for Dalton. When she finally comes to terms with the fact she never truly got over him. You know that saying, people come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime. Well for Cammie, it takes her time to see which one Dalton is.
My heart broke for Cammie, the heartache and the fear she has. It seriously paralyzed her from being able to move forward with what she really wanted.
Dalton is just amazing. He knows what he wants and he goes after it. He is sexy, smart and funny. When he finally gets Cammie back in his arms it is like all is right in the world. It is like they were never apart.
Jenn has created two amazing characters with two awesome supporting characters with Kristy and Tucker. These characters aren’t like anything she has written before and I LOVE her for that!
Cammie and Dalton just stole my heart. I felt all of their emotions, the happiness, the loss, the heartache, the fear and excitement, the longing and their love for each other.
Who doesn’t want a second chance at that first amazing love? This was such an emotional and beautifully written book.
Sometimes life was messy and got in the way. But wasn’t that part of the beauty of falling in love and being in a relationship? You figured things out together as you grew, and faced the challenges that life enjoyed the hell out of throwing at you.

Amazing Second Chance at Love!!

OMG! I love J. Sterling The Game Series and Seeing Stars but 10 Years Later grabed my heart in a very good way, read it in less than 2 hours. This book is about Cammie and Dalton getting a second chance at love. We have drama with Dalton's job, smiles with Cammie's job and her friends or co-workers and suspense with Cammie's history with her dad and his death. But above all we have a great love between two persons that has stand more than 10 years. This was a full circle journey. I wished there were an epilogue because I really like to know what happens next, but you could imagine marriage, kids, white picket fence maybe a dog, the hole enchiladas. This is a book that will cause you to remember your high school days. Like Cammie i got my high school sweetheart, thank God I did not wait 10 years. So i like the story very much.

As Cammie Carmichael gears up for her ten year high school reunion, she is going with the hope of seeing one man, Dalton Thomas. He was her big crush, anchor during hard times, and biggest disappointment. Something happened to make her shut him out and they lost their close bond. And after high school he fell off the grid. So she has no idea where is or what he has been doing.

Dalton has his own questions and regrets. And he has one mission for the reunion--talk to Cammie and this time don't leave anything unsaid.

Dalton was such a sweet heart. He was all hot alpha man with the heart of a love sick boy. Cammie was sweet and sassy, but also insecure and fearful. Their chemistry and rapport was so easy. They were both mature enough to ask the questions and get the answers they needed. I completely adored them together. Their best friends Tucker and Kristy added even more humor to the story. So I found myself smiling a lot.

It was told in dual point of view in present with some flashbacks, so we are privy to their beginning, missed communication, and mistakes when they were younger. Oh the drama and strife of young love and missed opportunities. They both now have regrets, but realize how inconsequential they seem in the grand scheme of things. While in high school, they were life altering. But years have gone by and they are set in their lives and careers. But still something is missing.

But there are still issues form her past and in their current situation that could ruin them before they really can get started again. But this time will they let the other one walk way or fight to keep them?

I got totally sucked into this sweet, funny novel with likable characters and an engaging second chance love story. I laughed, swooned, and got frustrated, but was invested in these two long lost loves all along the way. I think everyone can relate to the story line---the one that got away and a chance for a do-over years later.
